Upcut Router Bits are designed to deliver an excellent cut finish to most types of aluminum, aluminum composites and other non-ferrous metals such as brass and copper. The upward spiral geometry ejects swarf toward the top of the cutter for easy removal of waste material with an quality extraction system. During cutting, the spiral flute tends to lift the material, especially if it is thin sheet, so a good work-holding system is important to eliminate any movement or vibration which would cause inaccuracy and poor cut quality.

Downcut Router Bits have a downward spiral flute design which tends to push the material down onto the machine bed during cutting. This is very useful when processing thin sheet materials of almost any type which would otherwise be lifted from the bed by a more conventional upward spiral bit. The downward force created by this tool helps to hold the material in place, reducing the chance of poor or inaccurate cutting due to material movement or vibration.
